Medical School: Midwestern University Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine
About Me: I am a lifelong Illinois resident, having grown up in Plainfield, Illinois, earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Molecular & Cellular Biology at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (I-L-L), spent a research year in Chicago’s medical district, and pursued my medical school education at Midwestern University in Downer’s Grove. At Midwestern, I took part in an extra year of medical school focused on Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine and medical education. I fell in love with family medicine, especially the continuity of care with patients and the wide spectrum of practice it offers. I also hope to remain involved in medical education throughout my career! Outside of medicine, I enjoy spending time with my 10-lb cockapoo, Loki, and my husband; reading and participating in book clubs; collecting spoons from my travel destinations; exploring my local Roscoe Village shops and restaurants; and anything to do with water, whether it’s swimming or boating. Please share your book recommendations with me!i
Why Resurrection: During medical school, I had the opportunity to work with several faculty members from Resurrection and was inspired by their genuine kindness and passion for teaching. When I did an audition with the program, the residents immediately made me feel welcome, taking the time to teach but also showing a sincere interest in getting to know me. Both the faculty and residents exemplified the type of physician I wanted to become, combining skilled medical practice with true compassion for their patients. Everyone has so much fun together and really cares about each other, all while providing excellent patient care and education. Now being part of this program makes me grateful not only for the chance to learn alongside such supportive and inspiring colleagues, but also for the fun we have together!
Medical School: Midwestern University – Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine
About Me: I was born and raised in metro-Detroit and am the middle of three brothers. I attended The Ohio State University for undergrad, where I worked as an EMT, and stayed in Columbus for a year conducting clinical research in rheumatology. I then moved to the Chicagoland area to begin medical school at CCOM and have lived in the city ever since. In my free time, I enjoy cycling, golfing, binging new docuseries, and exploring Chicago’s restaurant scene.
Why Resurrection: I chose Resurrection for its strong sense of community, welcoming and supportive culture, and the opportunity to learn from residents and attendings who are passionate about teaching and mentorship. I also value the program’s outreach and engagement within the community, which reflects the kind of physician I strive to be.
Medical School: University of Pikeville – Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine
About Me: I grew up in Marion, Indiana, and like many Indiana kids, went on to Indiana University-Bloomington for college. I received my B.S. degree in Chemistry in 2021 from IU and then moved south to begin medical school at University of Pikeville in Kentucky. As someone who had spent their entire life in small town, U.S.A., I chased the opportunity to live and learn in the “windy city” for residency. I am thrilled to be a part of Resurrection’s Family Medicine Residency Program and all that it has to offer!
In my free time, I enjoy cheering on the Indiana Hoosiers and spending time with family at Lake Wawasee. I consider myself a bit of a French fry connoisseur and am always searching for Chicago’s best spicy margarita!
Why Resurrection: Going through the match process, I found most family medicine programs offered similar opportunities in terms of training and curriculum. As a result, I believe what actually sets a program apart are its people. The faculty at Res are fully invested αnd the residents truly enjoy one another’s company. Additionally, the support of the entire team here has a way of making the long days better. Res didn’t just meet my expectations, they surpassed them with their ability to effectively lead with culture. It’s important to find your place and people, as it validates your purpose! I’m grateful to be a part of this program!
Medical School: Des Moines University
About me: I grew up in suburban Milwaukee and attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where I majored in History and Neurobiology. I worked as a researcher and scribe prior to starting medical school in Iowa. Outside of work, you can find me cooking and baking, practicing my Serbian, playing tennis, and catching up with friends at one of Chicago’s cute cafes.
Why Resurrection: My fiancé lives and works in Chicago, so I knew a relocation from Wisconsin was in my future. Being unfamiliar with Chicago programs, one of my friends recommended that I apply to Resurrection because her mentor loved it here. I knew right away from my interview that this place was special; going to the second look day really sealed the deal. The attendings are eager to teach you and are approachable. My senior residents are my role models; they encompass knowledge, empathy, generosity, and fun. Everyone here is truly so kind and interested in your welfare. The transition from medical school to residency isn’t always easy, but I feel well-supported and cared for at Resurrection. As much as I miss Wisconsin, being a resident at Resurrection makes Chicago feel like home.
Medical School: Michigan State University – College of Osteopathic Medicine
About Me: I am from Metro Detroit, specifically growing up in Shelby Township. For undergrad, I was accepted into a combined BS/DO medical program at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. In undergrad, I studied Exercise and Sports Science, where I researched body composition, sports nutrition, and supplementation. For Medical school, I decided to return home and attend MSUCOM at the Detroit campus for all four years. In my free time, I enjoy working out (I’ve competed in a Powerlifting meet during medical school!), watching anime, becoming a better home cook, being a huge fan of the NBA, and keeping up with Detroit sports (Go Pistons! Go Lions!).
Why Resurrection: During medical school, I had a feeling that I would want to pursue a fellowship in Sports Medicine, and I also wanted to explore and move to a new city. Having plenty of cousins in Chicago, I researched FM programs in the area with sports opportunities and read numerous resident bios, much like you may be doing right now. I read how highly the residents talked about Res in these bios, and I was fortunate to have the opportunity to do a Sub-I here. After my Sub-I, I was sold. The program felt more like a family than I expected (very cliche but true!). I got to know all the attending physicians well, and the residents made an effort to get to know me as well. I knew I could learn something from every single attending. From Ultrasound and OMM training, diverse pediatric care, and an emphasis on preventive and lifestyle medicine, I knew Res was going to prepare me to be the best Family Physician I could be.
Medical School: Marian University College of Osteopathic Medicine
About Me: I was born and raised in the southwest suburbs of Chicago. I went to undergrad at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute which is located in upstate New York. I majored in Biomedical Engineering and didn’t realize until later on that engineering wasn’t for me. I finished medical school in Indianapolis, IN and fell in love with the field of family medicine. My family is originally from Poland and Polish was actually my first language. In my free time, I love to run, read, paint, play the piano and spend time with my family and friends!
Why Resurrection: Resurrection was (and still is!) everything that I was looking for in a residency program. I’m a Chicago native and always intended to come back home! Being Polish, I’ve always dreamed of having a Polish population that I can take care of. And of course… The people! There is no better group of individuals I’d rather learn from. The perfect blend of kindness, compassion, intellect, and willingness to teach. I couldn’t imagine being anywhere else!
About Me: I was born and raised in Boston, MA. I went to Brandeis University for undergrad, where I double majored in Biology and East Asian Studies. I moved to Chicago for medical school. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with friends/family, cooking/baking, binging TV shows, and exploring the city via museums and restaurants.
Why Resurrection: I chose Res for the people and vibes! I wanted a program that truly cared about their residents. Some of my medical school friends had done their family medicine rotations at Res and expressed how much they enjoyed their experience. I got to experience the culture virtually during interview day, but it was Second Look that sealed the deal. Everyone that I talked to was so welcoming and caring that I knew I was going to fit right in.
About Me: I was born and raised in Marion, IA which is just outside of Cedar Rapids. Most of my family still live around that area, including my parents, brother, sister-in-law and niece who I love spending time with. I attended the University of Iowa for my undergraduate education where I earned a BA in chemistry. After college, I spent one year working on the administrative side of medicine in the outpatient neurology clinic at the University of Iowa. I then moved to Des Moines to attend medical school which is where I met my boyfriend who is an Emergency Medicine resident here at Resurrection. One fun fact about me is that I lived with my high school best friend for all of undergrad and medical school, 8 years in total. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with friends and family, playing pickleball and exploring new restaurants and breweries.
Why Resurrection: When my boyfriend and I decided to couples match we knew we would need to find a program that suited both of our needs. We knew a physician couple from the quad cities who had gone through the programs here, and they both had a wonderful experience. During the fall of our fourth year we both completed audition rotations here, and we knew the program was for us when we couldn’t stop talking about the people we met and the experiences we had. Personally, I fell in love with the camaraderie between the residents and the faculty. I never felt more comfortable being myself in such a short amount of time, and I learned so much. When thinking about residency, and the future, I realized the only place I was envisioning myself was at Resurrection. I am so happy to be here and to be working with this team.
About Me: I was born in Rochester, NY and lived there until I was thirteen when my family moved to Belvedere, IL. I went to DePaul University to earn my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and then went to Boston University for a Master’s degree in Medical Sciences. While Boston had some upsides (like meeting my wife), I decided to come back to Illinois for medical school at Midwestern University to be closer to my family. While at Midwestern, I really fell in love with OMT and how to incorporate it into treatment plans as a future FM physician so catch me rib raising all my patients while in the hospital! We recently bought our first house and you can find me walking my dog Jessie, mowing the lawn, watching reality TV or playing board games.
Why Resurrection: During my time in medical school, I was lucky enough to meet some faculty and recent graduates of the program, and all of them would describe this great residency experience that I wanted to learn more about. It took about 2 seconds into the interview day to see how much the residents and faculty are not just coworkers, but a genuine family. At the second look day, it was clear the residents were all good friends and faculty members had this devotion to teaching residents not just all things in medicine, but all things in life. I loved the atmosphere and felt that all the residents were incredibly smart and competent at what they do, but also knew when to not take themselves too seriously. This was the type of residency experience that I had been looking for and it has been as amazing as I thought it would be!
About Me: I was born and raised in Tampa, Florida. I attended University of Florida and graduated with a degree in biology. I moved to St. Louis, Missouri for medical school at Saint Louis University, and came to Chicago for residency. In my free time, I enjoy playing basketball and tennis, watching sports, reading, and exploring the amazing food in Chicago.
Why Resurrection: I came to Res for an in-person interview, only having visited Chicago a couple of times before. I quickly realized how much of a supportive culture the program has among the residents and faculty. I enjoyed my interview more than any I went on during interview season. I could tell that the people in the program were close and cared about each other’s well-being, and they seemed genuinely interested in me as a person. The program also has a sports medicine fellowship which is an interest of mine. Along with being in a great city like Chicago, I knew that Res was a place that I could thrive in residency.
About Me: I was born and raised in Metro Detroit. For undergrad, I attended Michigan State where I studied human biology and spent a summer session abroad in Japan! At home I have a 13 year old Bichon Frise who loves long walks and naps and a siamese cat that loves to chat. When I’m not working, I love doing photography, listening to music, and keeping up with Formula 1. I also like exploring the different Chicago neighborhoods and experiencing the diverse art and food scene here.
Why Resurrection: I loved the idea of continuing my training at a community hospital that also allowed me to live so close to downtown Chicago. During my interview, all the faculty members were so kind and welcoming, and hearing the way the residents spoke about the program really sold me. I love being able to tell people I spent an interview breakout room just discussing sports cars with an attending: “The 911 is the pinnacle of sports cars” – Dr. Stephan. After all that, I KNEW Ress was the place I wanted to be.
About Me: I was born in Taiwan and moved to the United States when I was 4 years old. I grew up in Naperville, IL and went to Northwestern University, graduating with a major in History (also where I met my wife!). After a five year stint in accounting, I decided I wanted to become a physician instead. I graduated from the MAMS program at Loyola University Chicago and applied for med school, and was fortunate enough to be accepted at Rush. Needless to say, I consider myself a Chicago(land) native. In my free time, I spend time with my wife and son, watch Formula One races, cheer for the Chicago Cubs and the Bears, play video games, watch films (especially Christopher Nolan movies), and read science fiction/fantasy novels.
Why Resurrection: I really wanted to stay in the Chicago area because both my wife’s and my family are still here, and we would love to continue raising our son here. Resurrection was the first interview that I had when I was applying for residency. I was immediately struck by a sense of how the residents and faculty seemed to have close knit relationships, as well as a genuine desire to get to know me for who I am as a person, not just as a potential resident. This sense stuck with me throughout the interview season, and was my measuring stick with which I gauged a residency’s culture when I interviewed. At the second look for Res, I had a great time interacting with all the faculty and residents alike, and I discovered that Res is also a very family friendly residency which clinched the decision for me. I ranked Res #1 on my list and matched!
About Me: I was born in College Station, TX, but grew up in Carmel, IN. I attended Indiana University (Go Hoosiers!) where I majored in Biology and had some amazing experiences such as studying abroad in Chile. I found my way to the University of North Carolina for medical school where I met my now-fiancée, Elizabeth! In my free time, I enjoy indoor rock climbing, obsessing over credit card points, trying the amazing food in Chicago and playing with my adorable cat, Tama.
Why Resurrection: During my interview day, it was clear that this was a program with an outstanding culture. I was impressed by the kindness and intelligence of everyone in the program. More than anything else, I was blown away by the obvious camaraderie shared between all members of the program. I knew that this was a program that would allow me to thrive as a resident family physician. For me, ranking Resurrection number one was an easy choice!
About Me: I was born and raised in Skokie, IL. I studied Psychology at University of Maryland for my undergrad before coming back to the Chicago area for Medical School and Residency. In my free time, I love basketball, board games, fantasy/sci-fi novels, and playing/listening to music.
Why Resurrection: The biggest draw for me was the culture of the program. This was my top priority when looking at residency programs – residency is hard no matter where you go, and I think being around the right people makes a huge difference in terms of the person and doctor you become by the end of your training. Even through a virtual interview, I could tell that people here genuinely care about each other. More than that, the residents truly seemed happy. I’m also interested in sports medicine, and the opportunities to get sports experience and exposure at Resurrection are second to none. I’m really happy to have found a program like this in my hometown and I’m grateful to have matched here.
About Me: I’m originally from the west suburbs of Chicago, which is where most of my family still lives, and where I met my wife, Ashley, who is my high school sweetheart. I went on to play Division I football at Western Michigan University and still love to partake in anything competitive, whether it be softball, golf, fishing, disc golf, my neighborhood bags league (yes it’s bags, not cornhole), or any other sport you can think of. My wife and I recently bought our first home in Naperville and are expecting our first child in February 2024! We also have a cat named Minnie and a turtle named Dude, possibly adding a golden retriever to the mix soon, too. If I’m not playing sports or being a doctor, I’m probably at the movie theater.
Why Resurrection: During medical school, I was lucky enough to have two amazing mentors who both went through the program at Resurrection and also completed sports fellowships. Aspiring to have the knowledge and patient relationships that they do, and looking for sports med opportunities, it appeared Ascension Resurrection was where I needed to end up. During my interview and second look, I already felt like part of the team/family. The people and culture here are second to none and I’m so grateful to be part of a program like this.
About Me: I was born and raised in the northwest suburbs of Chicago. I attended the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana for my undergrad degree. After earning a BS in molecular and cellular biology, I spent two years working as a clinical research associate at Northwestern University. I then went on to complete my medical education at Michigan State University. In my free time I enjoy spending time with friends/family, traveling and exploring the amazing restaurant scene in Chicago!
Why Resurrection: Resurrection offered everything I was looking for in a residency program: Chicago location, a community hospital with a diverse patient population, and most importantly, a program that felt like family. On interview day I felt relaxed and I was able to connect in a way that stood out from previous interviews. After attending a meet-and-greet, where I had the opportunity to spend time getting to know the residents and faculty, I was sold that this program was the right fit for me. I feel honored to be surrounded by a team of such supportive and genuine physicians!
About Me: Despite leaving the area for medical school, I have always considered Chicagoland home. I was born and raised in the northwest suburbs, then completed my undergraduate degree at Loyola University in Chicago where I studied Biology, Bioethics and earned my EMT license. While in Idaho, I developed a love for snowboarding and all things that kept me active outdoors. We have a sheepadoodle pup named Yeti, and my wife just delivered a baby boy — our first! I am thrilled to be back home where I can eat all the deep dish pizza and Italian beef I was deprived of in Idaho.
Why Resurrection: Aside from being a community hospital and having a prime location, Resurrection’s interview process set itself apart for me. Right away I got the sense that residents and faculty have a special bond — something I found to be unique as I explored other programs. The interview itself felt more like a fun conversation than a stressful experience, and this sentiment has continued into intern year. The “open door” policy isn’t just a slogan to make one feel welcome. It is as sincere as the faculty and staff that I’m surrounded by everyday! The people make this residency rise above the others, it has been an excellent teaching environment and I always feel like someone has my back.
